Here at Funnel Boost, we’ve worked with a variety of different salespeople over the years. Some have worked in the industry since they left school; others have come to sales after working in a different profession. Some have degrees; some don’t. You won’t find a more diverse bunch of people!

We believe that great salespeople are made, not born, and there are several skills you need to perfect to be one of the best salespeople around…

You need to be able to identify with the person you are selling with and find their pain points. How can your product or service directly benefit them? You’ll be pitching to a wide range of different people from all walks of life and across a lot of various industries, so you need to be able to appeal to them all!

The sales market keeps rapidly changing. For example, in the early noughties, social media wasn’t a thing, and people still used fax machines, and this was only two decades ago! You need to keep your finger on the pulse, not only with evolving sales tactics but the changing needs of the industry, so you don’t fall behind.

We all may dream of working in industries where we are selling luxury cars or exotic holidays, but the reality is that most of us are working in industries where the product on offer is not an interesting one. It may even be downright dull.

It’s up to you to sell this to the customer and make it sound like the most fantastic product in the world. After all, if you don’t care about the product you sell, how will you convince your customers to care?

Grace under pressure
If you are after an easy life, sales is not the career path for you! There are demanding sales targets to achieve as well as relentless pressure from your manager, colleagues and customers. You need to be able to keep a cool head and be able to keep swimming, even while those around you are floundering.

Becoming a good salesperson takes time, and there are a lot of challenges to overcome. However, if you possess all the qualities above, you are well on the way to becoming great at what you do!
